Thabo Mokiri
Polokwane, South Africa – Thabo Mokiri was yesterday afternoon targeted by three unidentified men attempting to scam him outside the MIDAS store located at 10 Grobler St, Polokwane Central.
The incident occurred when Mokiri visited the store to purchase replacement bulbs for his vehicle. While outside the shop, a man approached him, requesting him to install the bulbs for him at a price of R100.
Mokiri says he agreed to the deal. But shortly after, two other men joined the first, raising suspicions that they might be working together.
When done installing the bulbs, the trio insisted on charging R2000 for the bulbs installation claiming it was their price.
Mokiri says he tried reasoning with the other two men, but they refused to accept his initial offer of R100.
As the situation escalated, Mokiri attempted to call the police. In a brazen move, one of the men forcefully tried to snatch his phone.
Fortunately, a police van passing by caught the attention of the scammers, and they hastily fled the scene.
Recounting the encounter, Mokiri pleaded with MIDAS to take action against these individuals who were operating within their premises.
“This was a terrifying experience, and I wouldn’t want anyone else to fall victim to such scams,” Mokiri stated.
“I urge MIDAS to enhance security measures and cooperate to ensure the safety of their customers.”
Car owners are also advised to be cautious and avoid any dealings with these individuals outside the MIDAS store.
