General Manizo has been sentenced to 14-year in prison for murder and firearm possession

Thabo “General Manizo” Makgobola, founding member of the amadamara music group, Bad Company, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for murder and illegal possession of a firearm.

The sentencing took place at the Polokwane High Court. Manizo’s conviction stems from a tragic incident involving the murder of his girlfriend, which has kept him behind bars for over a year. Despite numerous attempts for bail, he chose to plead guilty to both charges.

He was handed a 14-year sentence for the murder charge, 5 years for illegal possession of a firearm, and 3 years for possession of ammunition. However, the sentences for firearm possession will be served concurrently with the 14-year sentence for murder.

Mashudu Dzangi, the spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), confirmed that Manizo was presented with a plea agreement for murder and firearms charges on Thursday, the 24th, during the proceedings at the Polokwane High Court.

The 34-year-old was arrested for the murder of a 23-year-old girl from Mamotintane village in Makweng, along with five other suspects.

Two of the co-accused were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and three were arrested for defeating the ends of justice after they allegedly took the Makgola’s firearm to conceal it at Relela village.

The alleged murder took place when a group of people were reportedly drinking at a house at Morutji village in the Tzaneen area on March 1 this year when the victim was allegedly shot.

The injured woman, Kgaogelo Maake, was taken to hospital where she died on arrival.
