DiepCity actor Lebohang Mpyana succumbs to short illness.
Award-winning actor and comedian Lebohang Mpyana has died.
Family spokesperson T Mpyana confirmed the news of the 34-year’s death in a brief statement on social media.
“It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our daughter, Lebohang Mpyana,” the statement read.
“Lebo died after a short illness.”
The spokesperson requested the public to hold the family in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate through their grieving process.
Mpyana gained popularity through her role as Khelina in Mzansi Magic’s (DStv 161) DiepCity. For her role in the show, Mpyana won the Viewer’s Choice Best Actress award at the 2021 Royalty Soapie Awards.

Lebohang Mpyana, known to many as Khelina from Diep City, has left us with a legacy of talent and resilience. Born on the 3rd of January 1989 in Ga-Mokgokong, Moletjie Village, Limpopo, she embraced the world with her stage name, Queen Sekwatakwata.
Raised by her grandparents in Ga-Mokgokong after her mother’s passing in 1998. She began her education at Ga-Mokgokong and graduated from Kgabo secondary school.
Her passion for the arts led her to the Paul Rapetswa Institute of Dramatic and Mahuma Institutes for the Arts, where she honed her skills in acting, music, and comedy, all performed in the Sepedi language.
In 2017, her role as Sylvia in Thobela FM’s drama, Mahlakung, garnered praise from friends who encouraged her to take acting seriously.
Unable to secure comedy gigs in Limpopo, she turned to social media, sharing her funny skits online. Her work caught the attention of clients who sought her out for advertising, allowing her to make a name and a living for herself.
In 2019, Lebohang auditioned online for a role in Diep City. In January 2021, she finally received the call that changed her life. Her portrayal of Khelina in the show became iconic.
Lebohang Mpyana found inspiration in the late “Bra Paul,” Mahuma Paul Rapetsoa, and continued to push herself. Her online comedy videos, despite initial criticism, went viral and paved the way for her role as Khelina in Diep City.
Her success on stage and in the online world garnered her awards and the affectionate nickname “Khelina” from her fans. Lebohang’s work spoke for itself, and she remained grateful for the support and praise from her audience.
