Limpopo Receives Official Census 2022 Provincial Results

The Census 2022 provincial results were officially handed to Limpopo Province Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha at Mowaneng Building by Statistician General Mr Risenga Maluleke.

The report indicates that the total population of Limpopo, as counted in Census 2022, increased by 1.2 million people from more than a decade ago in the Census 2011 count to 2022.

The median age of the people of Limpopo was 26 years in 2022, lower than the national median age, which was 28 years. The question on “place of usual residence and place of birth” provides valuable insights into lifetime migration.

Limpopo Province was one of the provinces that showed negative net-migration, losing about 114,000 persons between the 2011 and 2022 censuses, resulting from the high number of out-migrants.

“The report is good news as we have come a long way as a province since the dawn of democracy. Numbers don’t lie; a lot has been done to improve the livelihoods of our people. Economic development is evident across all districts in Limpopo; people have access to basic services such as flushing toilets, provision of water, electricity, education, infrastructure, and healthcare, ” said Premier Mathabatha.

“To have reached the 90% mark as a country and province, in particular, shows there is light at the end of the tunnel. Although we still have a long way to go, we must reflect on the journey that we have traveled thus far, which shows that we are heading in the right direction, ” added Mathabatha.

In terms of school attendance, nearly six out of ten children aged 0-4 years had access to some form of early childhood development (ECD) program in Limpopo.
