Polokwane Municipality has emerged victorious at the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) 2022/23 Municipal Awards.
The municipality clinched the coveted award in the category honoring municipalities with sustained unqualified audit opinions, reaffirming its status as a beacon of fiscal responsibility and good governance.
The achievement highlights Polokwane’s dedication to upholding the highest standards of accountability, setting a commendable benchmark for municipalities nationwide.
The accolade places Polokwane among the select few “low-lying fruits” identified for their potential to attain clean audits, a goal championed by Executive Mayor Cllr Makoro John Mpe.
“This accolade is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our entire team. It reaffirms our commitment to transparency, accountability, and delivering value to the residents of Polokwane. We are immensely proud of this achievement and remain steadfast in our resolve to continue raising the bar for municipal governance,” remarked Mpe
Adding to the celebration, Polokwane Housing Association (PHA), a key agency under the municipality’s purview, has also been honored for its sustained unqualified audit opinion.
This dual triumph further solidifies Polokwane’s reputation as a model of efficiency and accountability in municipal governance.
