The Limpopo Impalas secured a six-wicket victory over the Northern Cape Heat in the T20 Knockout final in Polokwane on Sunday.
Electing to bat first, the Heat posted 132-9 in their 20 overs, with Ernest Kemm top-scoring with 42.
Daniel van der Merwe spearheaded the Impalas’ bowling attack, claiming figures of 4-18 in three overs, supported by two wickets from Don Radebe, as the home side collectively contained the visitors’ batting lineup.
In reply, Sizwe Masondo remained unbeaten on 51, complemented by 35 from skipper Ruan Haasbroek and a quickfire 18 off 8 deliveries from Van der Merwe, to guide the hosts to victory with seven balls to spare.
The home team started the series on a high note eliminating teams such as the Mpumalanga Rhinos, Eastern Cape Iinyathi and Eastern Storm.
The Impalas went undefeated in their Cricket South Africa (CSA) T20 challenge Division 2 campaign having won all their games comfortably.
