South African Superstars Nominated in the BET Awards

South Africa’s Tyla, Tyler ICU, Focalistic and Makhadzi have been nominations in this year’s BET Awards.

The BET Awards, set to take place on 30 June 2024, have announced the nominees for the ‘BET Awards 2024’, featuring African global stars who have made a significant impact.

Tyla, Burna Boy, Tems, Ayra Starr, Makhadzi, Focalistic, Davido, Lojay, Asake, Tyler ICU, and Seyi Vibes have all received nominations across various music categories.

Following her Grammy win, Tyla heads to the awards as Africa’s most nominated artist with four nods: Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best New Artist, Viewer’s Choice Award and Best International Act.

Burna Boy and Tems, both winners at the 2023 BET Awards, received two nominations each: Burna Boy in the Best Male Hip Hop and Best Male R&B/Pop Artist categories, and Tems in the Video Director of the Year and the Dr Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award categories. 

Meanwhile, Drake leads this year’s list of nominees with seven nods, including for Album of the Year. Nicki Minaj earned six nominations.

Makhadzi was nominated in the viewers’ choice: Best International Act category.

Amapiano sensation Focalistic is nominated in the Best International Act category, being the only South African nominated in a slot which also includes Asake, Ayra Starr, and others.
