Three People Injured Following Explosion at Polokwane Provincial Hospital
Three individuals sustained moderate injuries in an incident involving an MRI scanner at Pietersburg Hospital’s Radiology Unit.
The injuries occurred when the MRI scanner, which was being decommissioned, accidentally expelled large volumes of air.
The forceful expulsion of air led to significant infrastructure damage within the unit, resulting in injuries to two hospital employees and a technician from a private company involved in the decommissioning process.

Health MEC Dieketseng Mashego visited the three individuals who sustained moderate injuries in the MRI scanner incident.
“We rushed here to see the extent of the damage and to wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” said MEC Mashego.
No fatalities were reported. An assessment is still being made to establish the cause of damage.
