A 16-year old Limpopo Initiate from Bungeni Has Died
16-year-old Fhundzo Khomolo from Bungeni Village, Manyunyu section died after complaining about ill health on Sunday.
He was admitted at Bungeni Initiation School on the 20th of June 2024.
It is alleged that Khomolo complained that he was not feeling well, then he was taken to a Medical Doctor for check up, where he was given some medication and declared to be in a good condition.
“Later on in the day, he again complained of the same illness. The Traditional Surgeon drove with him back to same Doctor who re-xamined him and certified him dead,” said Hosi Given Bungeni.
Parents and SAPS were called and informed about the incident whilst at the Doctor’s rooms.

The MEC for CoGHSTA, Basikopo Makamu has expressed his sadness at the passing of Khomolo.
“The death of one child is just too many. We did not expect a death as our Provincial Initiation Coordinating Committee – PICC, as led by Hosi Shitlhangoma Chauke had worked hard for a zero death tolerance at our Initiation schools around the Province. As a Department, we pass our deepest condolences to the bereaved Khomolo family,” said MEC Basikopo Makamu.
Hosi Bungeni says he has made agreements with the family that he will work closely with them preparing for the funeral of their loved one.
Meanwhile, MEC Makamu attended the closing ceremony of the Ngove Initiation School at Ka-Ngove on Saturday. He commended Hosi Ngove, who is also the Chairperson of the Limpopo House of Traditional Leaders, for successfully delivering a fatality-free initiation season.
MEC Makamu also extended his gratitude to all stakeholders involved under the Limpopo Provincial Initiation Coordinating Committee.
“Their collective efforts have consistently ensured accident-free initiation seasons year after year. Highlighting their commitment to the safety and also the well-being of all participants.”
