Minister of Police, Bheki Cele and Justice Minister Ronald Lamola, joined by Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha attended the bail application of two farmers accused of attempted murder at the Groblersdal Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
This comes after supporters of the two suspects clashed with the police outside the court demanding their release during their first court appearance.
Officers fired stun grades to disperse protestors as they forced their way past a police barricade and into the court premises.
Piet Groenewald and Stephen Greef allegedly assaulted their employee before unleashing their dog on him.
Police Minister Bheki Cele says police must continue to enforce the law without fear of favour. He made these remarks whilst addressing the media outside the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court.
“The police are ready for whatever eventuality. That is why they are here,” Cele said.
“They know their duty; theirs is to uphold the law, but if others refuse to uphold the law, police must enforce the law. Our duty is to ensure the law takes place; we are ready to handle the situation”.
The case has been postponed to 7 February, with the accused remaining in custody.
