The Conty Lebepe Foundation expressed concerns at the appalling and unsafe learning conditions experienced by learners in rural schools in Limpopo.
The foundation says the mobile classrooms at Makgongoana High School in Mankweng area under Capricorn District are in a poor and deteriorated state.
“In thirty years of democracy, we still have to talk about basic human rights. This has to stop. Stakeholders, teachers, and learners of Makgongoana High School in Mankweng area under Capricorn District are not happy with the classrooms they are obliged to use on a daily basis.”
The foundation says some of the old classrooms are full of wreckage materials from old classrooms. It is also a health hazard for anyone entering the premises.
“The Department of Education expects brilliant results at the end of the year under these conditions. We call upon the MEC of Education Mrs Lerule-Ramakhanya to treat this challenge as an emergency.”
School Governing Body chairperson, Malesela Bopape says they tried engaging the Department of Education on the matter but what they do is to turn a blind eye and crying financial crisis.
Parents, on the other hand, are threatening to take law into their own hands if the matter isn’t given immediate attention.
