Former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Limpopo chairperson, Jossey Buthane, has returned to the African National Congress (ANC).
This comes after the EFF Central Command Team dissolved the provincial committee he led due to the disappointing performance in the 2021 local government elections, which resulted in a loss of around 25 council seats.
The announcement of Buthane’s return to the ANC was made during the Solomon Mahlangu memorial lecture held at Jack Botes Hall in Polokwane on Sunday.
The ANC in Limpopo confirmed that Buthane has rejoined the ANC, and that party warmly welcomed Buthane alongside 190 former EFF members into their fold.
“The ANC in Limpopo is pleased to announce that Jossey Buthane, former Limpopo Provincial leader of the EFF, has rejoined the ANC, together with 190 former EFF members,” said Reuben Madadzhe, ANC Provincial Secretary, during the Solomon Mahlangu Memorial Lecture in Polokwane.
Buthane’s departure from the EFF was marred by controversy, ending in a fiery outburst against Malema, whom he accused of manipulation and malice.
He threatened to disclose incriminating information if the disrespect from Malema persisted.
“At least there [the ANC], when you have differences, you still feel safe in an organisation, you don’t feel patronised, you don’t feel attacked in your personal space. You can still differ in the ANC and still be a member in good standing, still enjoy rights and benefits in the organisation,” Buthane said
Prior to his departure to the ANC, Buthane focused on the Workers Emancipation Trade Union, which he launched last year to address workplace injustices.
