Hawks uncover R2 billion drug lab in Limpopo
The Limpopo Hawks and SAPS have uncovered a drug lab worth R2 billion in Groblersdal.
Four suspects, including a farm owner and two Mexican nationals, were arrested during a raid at a drug lab in Groblersdal on charges of manufacturing, dealing and possession of illicit drugs on Saturday.
Four structures on the property were searched and large quantities of chemicals used in the manufacturing of illicit drugs including acetone as well as crystal meth with an estimated street value of R2 billion were recovered.
Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale said the Hawks in Limpopo received information about suspicious activities taking place at a farm in Groblersdal.
“Upon arrival on Friday, they found four structures on the property. A search revealed large quantities of chemicals used in the manufacturing of illicit drugs, including acetone and crystal meth, with an estimated street value of R2 billion were recovered.”

The suspects will make their first appearance in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu has also welcomed the arrests.
Meanwhile, Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba welcomes the arrest expressed her gratitude.
“This operation is a testament to the effectiveness of the collaboration and synergy between various units within the South African Police Service in our province. We will ensure that this arrest is thoroughly followed up until every individual involved in drug trafficking, which is devastating the future of our children, is completely removed from our society,” she said
