The SA Weather Service has extended its heatwave warning for most parts of the country until next Tuesday.
Heatwave conditions are expected over the north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the central and eastern parts of the Free State, North West, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the western parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
Similar conditions are expected in the eastern and northern parts of the Eastern Cape, where it will improve in the west on Friday.
Limpopo can expect partly cloudy and warm to hot conditions. It will be very hot in the extreme east.
The country’s south coast, the eastern half of the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, the highveld of Mpumalanga, Gauteng, the eastern sections of North West and Free State, and the southwestern portions of Limpopo are all predicted to get rain and showers on Tuesday due to a cold front.
The weather urged residents in affected areas to take precautions against the heatwave, such as staying indoors during the hottest part of the day, drinking plenty of fluids and wearing loose-fitting clothing. Residents should also continue checking for updates.
