The Kgorong Film Festival celebrates the creative arts through film. The festival aims to showcase diverse films and highlight the role of film in promoting cultural and social awareness.
The festival takes place in Polokwane, Limpopo, and features a curated selection of documentary films directed by local filmmakers.
This year’s festival theme is music, or “Mmino” in Sepedi. It celebrates South Africa’s rich music history through documentary films that explore diverse music scenes in the country. The festival promises to showcase a wide range of musical genres, from traditional folk music to Amapiano.
The festival is part of the Encounters Community Festivals: Doc Activate Season 2023, supported by the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme (PESP). The initiative provides support to the arts and culture sector impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re thrilled to be part of creating something importance in the arts industry,” said festival director Sello Chokoe.
“The festival aims to create a space that inspires artists from different practices to collaborate and showcase their talents. There’s support, and we are here to help.”
