In the realm of fame and fortune, there are those who bask in the limelight and revel in the glitz and glamour. And then, there are those who harness their influence for a higher purpose, for something greater than themselves.
Reality TV and Radio personality, Lethabo Lejoy Mathatho, is using her platform to make a difference in the lives of young individuals through her foundation, the Lejoy Foundation.
Her foundation recently donated sanitary towels and toiletries at Ramakanyane Secondary School.
In addressing the crucial issue of menstrual hygiene, Lethabo and her team donated sanitary towels to 119 girls. Toiletries were also provided to 133 boys to highlight the importance of personal hygiene and self-care for all leaners.
A total of 252 learners at Ramakanyane Secondary School benefited from the Lejoy Foundation’s donations.
“Millions of girls in our country face “period poverty”, and as a result, they suffer in silence. Period poverty has a serious impact on teenage girls. It prevents them from going to school, and participating in sports and social activities, and worse it can cause health problems, ” Lethabo posted.
“Girls also find it difficult to talk to their parents or friends about their feelings around periods, leaving them with a sense of shame and isolation. Lejoy Foundation aims to restore dignity and cover shame with love,” she added.
