Limpopo CoGHSTA Concludes Oversight Visit to Flood Stricken Areas
Limpopo Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) MEC ,Mr Basikopo Makamu together with Limpopo Department of Health MEC , Ms Dieketseng Mashego and Lephalale Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr . Aaron Mokgetle have concluded their day long oversight visit to flood stricken areas within the Lephalale Local Municipality.
MEC Makamu reported that the Waterberg District is the most affected by floods leaving infrastructure damaged , families displaced and four fatalities specifically in the Lephalale Local Municipality.
“The Local mayor and I will establish a plan to permanently relocate affected families whose households are very close to the Phalala River bank to avoid future damage during floods,” said the CoGHSTA MEC after conducting a walk about at Thabo Mbeki residential area.

MEC Makamu thanked the Local Disaster Management Centre, Gift of the Givers, SAPS, Red Cross and all sector departments for all their hard work and donating food parcels .
“We will continue to work as a unit to mitigate the situation in Lephalale Local Municipality,” said Makamu.
Among areas visited include the Witpoort hospital in Lephalale, the badly damaged D1836 road that links the farming area to town and the Thabo Mbeki informal settlement which is situated near the riverbank of Palala River.
