Limpopo Health MEC Dr. Phophi Ramathuba Limpopo Premier Candidate
Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) and the African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo nominated three key figures as premier candidates.
The ANC managed to retain a majority in Limpopo during the 2024 national and provincial elections.
The governing party had 75.60% in the province, with the EFF trailing behind at 11.61% and the DA at 6.02%.
The ANC in Limpopo has since nominated three names for the Premier candidate during the Provincial Executive Committee’s extended meeting in Polokwane on Monday.
The Limpopo extended ANC PEC meeting nominated Health MEC Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, Sport, Arts & Culture MEC Nakedi Sibanda-Kekana, and Cogsta MEC Basikopo Makamu in order of preference.

Limpopo Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba emerged as the frontrunner to replace Stan Mathabatha as the province’s premier.
The candidates will be interviewed by ANC officials during the course of the week.
ANC provincial spokesperson Jimmy Machaka says they will make the list public once the process is concluded.
“In terms of the deadlines we are required to nominate three names. We have nominated the three names,”
“The names have now been sent to national for interviews. Once a decision is made, we will pronounce publicly on the final product.”
Limpopo Premier Candidates
- Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, Health MEC, is known for her hands-on approach and dedication to improving healthcare services across Limpopo.
- Nakedi Sibanda-Kekana, MEC for Sport, Arts & Culture, advocates for uplifting communities through cultural and athletic initiatives by developing local arts and sports programs.
- Basikopo Makamu, the Cogsta MEC, works to enhance service delivery and strengthen the role of traditional leadership within the province, focusing on governance and traditional affairs.
The announcement will mark a significant moment for the ANC in Limpopo.
