In 2023 Maros Mosehla from Limpopo broke a 34-year record during the 96th Comrades Marathon down run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban by becoming the oldest person to complete the 87.7km ultra-marathon.

Maros Johannes Mosehla was again the oldest finisher of the Comrades Marathon in 2024 at age 82.
He finished in a remarkable time of 10:13.46 to finish sixth in the 70+ age category.
Last year Mosehla, a former bricklayer from Limpopo, became the oldest finisher since Wally Hayward in 1989 to finish the race when he ran a time of 9:26.10 in the ‘Down’ run.
He has now finished 11 Comrades with a best time of 7:57.11 which he ran as a 65-year-old in 2007 and finished second in his age category. In 2006 her ran 8:19.43 to win the 60+ age category.
He has finished every Comrades since 2016.
