Poelano “Madam Speaker” Setwaba
Poelano “Madam Speaker” Setwaba won the Women in Radio and Entertainment Award at the She Millionaire Business Summit and Awards 2022 held on Saturday at Fusion Boutique Hotel.
She says this was a powerful moment for her because she worked hard for this achievement.
“I am deeply humbled and grateful for the recognition. I won a category where I competed against experienced female radio broadcasters who inspire me. The Women in Radio & Entertainment Awards came at a time when I was becoming increasingly comfortable broadcasting in my native language,” she said.
“It serves as a reminder that you can definitely enter an industry with limited knowledge or experience and use that to your advantage to learn, listen, and arm yourself on your path to greatness,” added Setwaba.
The 27-year-old from Tzaneen, Limpopo, started her radio journey at Radio Turf. Later, in 2016, she joined Energy FM as a co-host for Energy Drive and The Ashifa Breakfast Show. She holds honors in Media Studies and enrolled for a Masters program.
Setwaba made a big move to national radio in 2021. She joined Thobela FM where she co-hosts the Ditlalemeso Breakfast Show with Lenny T weekdays 6am – 9am.
“I want to encourage young women who want to get into this industry. “I want them to remember that good things require effort, and change is inevitable, often differing from expectations.”
“Find your niche, keep your focus, ignore the naysayers, and ride the wave regardless of circumstances. Eventually, the seas will calm, and you’ll sail in the right direction,” advised Poelano.
