Polokwane Municipality Halts On-Street Parking

Polokwane Municipality has terminated the services of Parkpoint, the on-street parking management company.

This follows the municipality taking Parkpoint to court over contractual issues.

In a statement issued by the Municipality, the court order prevents the company or any of its agents from operating, managing parking, and collecting revenue from motorists within the city.

“Motorists and all other stakeholders are hereby notified that the Parkpoint company which was managing on-street parking in the city’s CBD area on behalf of the municipality has been served with a court order which prevents them from continuing with parking management as of today 15
February 2024,” said the statement.

The municipality said that Parkpoint’s term was a five-year contract set to end in 2023, but it has only been terminated now due to a prolonged court battle.

The municipality advised motorists not to pay any parking tariffs.

“Consumers or motorists are therefore advised not to give or pay any of the company’s representatives money as a tariff for parking within the city until further notice.”

Polokwane municipality introduced the on-street parking management in 2017 for parking in areas within the city to ensure that there is adequate parking for motorists, cleanliness and safety at the parking areas.
