Sekhukhune United has appointed Lehlohonolo Seema as their new head coach following the departure of Brandon Truter.
The announcement made on Monday comes after Truter’s successful tenure, which included guiding the team to a Nedbank Cup Final and a respectable sixth-place finish in the previous DStv Premiership season.
Lehlohonolo Seema, a seasoned coach with a track record of securing automatic promotion, particularly during his time with Polokwane City, steps into the leadership role immediately.
Sekhukhune United, currently positioned twelfth in the DStv Premiership, looks to Seema’s strategic expertise to improve their standing in the league.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Chairman, Mr. Simon Malatji for having afforded me an opportunity to lead the team,” said Seema.
“I’m most appreciative of how the negotiations between my management team and the Club were handled, in a respectable and candid manner. There is obviously a lot ahead of us and therefore I have to hit the ground running.
“I don’t wish to make any promises except to offer my work ethic and dedication to the Club and its supporters,” he concluded
The decision to appoint Seema was driven by the urgency of the upcoming schedule, involving both League and CAF Confederation Cup fixtures in November and December.
Chairman Simon Malatji expressed gratitude for the swift negotiations that resulted in Seema’s appointment. Seema acknowledged the challenges ahead in his new role.
“There is obviously a lot ahead of us, and therefore I have to hit the ground running. I don’t wish to make any promises except to offer my work ethic and dedication to the Club and its supporters.”
Seema commenced his managerial journey in 2016 at Bloemfontein Celtic, transitioning seamlessly from his playing career, where he captained Siwelele for eight years.
McDonald Makhubedu, who served as interim coach during the transitional period, will now resume his position as assistant coach under Seema’s leadership.
Additionally, Nascent Nkwashu has been appointed as the Goalkeeper Coach, strengthening the coaching staff.
Under Seema’s guidance, Sekhukhune United aims to make significant strides, starting with a crucial CAF Confederations Cup clash against RSB Berkane on Sunday.
