Tito Mboweni to be buried on Saturday in Tzaneen
Former South African Finance Minister and Reserve Bank Governor, Tito Titus Mboweni, will be buried at his hometown in Tzaneen, Limpopo on Saturday.
Mboweni’s funeral will take place at Nkowankowa Stadium from 10am.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared a special official funeral category 2 in honour of former finance minister Tito Mboweni, who died on Saturday aged 65.
A Special Provincial Official Funeral Category 2 is reserved for distinguished persons specifically designated by the President of South Africa on request by the Premier of a Province.
The funeral will feature ceremonial elements provided by the SA Police Service. Ramaphosa also directed that the national flag be flown at half-mast at all flag stations from Wednesday morning until the evening of the funeral on Saturday.
Mboweni was democratic SA’s first minister of labour from 1994 to 1999. He served as governor of the SA Reserve Bank for a decade from 1999.
From 2018 to 2021, Mboweni served as finance minister.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has paid tribute to former Minister and Governor of the Reserve Bank, Tito Mboweni, following his passing.
“Given his sense of vitality and energetic and affable engagement with fellow South Africans, Dr Mboweni’s passing at 65 comes as a shock. We have lost a leader and compatriot, who has served our nation as an activist, economic policy innovator and champion of labour rights,” President Ramaphosa said.
