Police in Limpopo are currently investigating cases of attempted murder after a violent incident occurred during political party campaigns at Juju Valley in Seshego policing area on Sunday.
The incident resulted in two individuals, including a minor, sustaining gunshot wounds.
The violence erupted during a campaign event between rival political parties, leading to an escalation that endangered the live of an innocent 09-year-old bystander.
The police and emergency medical medical services responded swiftly to the scene, providing immediate assistance to the minor girl and commencing a thorough investigation into the matter.
Another case was later reported after it was established that a 25-year-old man was shot during the scuffle.
According to the information available at this stage, several other people sustained injuries after the members hit each other with stones and several shots were fired.
The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the violent acts, emphasizing that such behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
The Provincial Commissioner reiterated the commitment of the SAPS to ensuring that those responsible for the violence are brought to justice.
“We deplore this senseless act of violence that has resulted in injuries to innocent individuals, including a child. The safety and security of our communities, especially during the election period, is of utmost importance. The SAPS will intensify its efforts to maintain law and order and ensure the perpetrators of this heinous act face the full might of the law,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.
LIMPOPO HEALTH MEC VISITS VICTIMS
Limpopo health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba this morning visited Pietersburg Tertiary and Academic hospital to monitor progress of the two patients who survived political shootings that took place at Juju valley in Seshego.
A 55 years old male patient sustained open tibia-fibula fracture (big bone and the smaller bone in the lower leg are broken) but is in a stable condition.
A nine years old girl sustained gunshot wound on the head, was taken to theatre since early hours of the morning by Neurosurgeons Procedure which took more than five hours has been successfully performed and the child who is critical but stable is in ICU.
“ We have just seen on social media disturbing fake news that our little innocent girl has passed on and we want to condemn those who are spreading these fake news. Let’s be sensitive and think about her family especially her mother who I’ve just met. All what our little girl and her family needs is our support and prayers as a nation during this difficult time not distressing fake news, ” said MEC Ramathuba
